It is a very daunting task to balance a successful working life and a harmonious home, especially if you are a working mom. You have to juggle between the needs of your husband, children and work. There are numerous things you have to keep track of and very often you tend to miss something important like your child’s appointment with the doctor or an important meeting with a client. So here comes into picture the new tool many working moms swear by – Smartphones! Blackberry, iPhone, HTC or Samsung, all smartphones have found an unexpected but loyal customer in working moms.
According to a recent survey, more and more working mothers have started opting for smartphones, ditching the plain old cellphones. The study states that in the last two years the number of smartphone moms has risen by a whopping 64%! Also, the average time working moms spend on the smartphone has increased in the past couple of years. While the general population spends 2.1 hours on their smartphones, moms spend around 6 hours! This survey shows how working moms are hooked to their smartphones.
So what makes these smartphones so special for working mothers? The multifunctional features of smartphones are the biggest reason that attracts mothers towards it. Says a working mum Carol, “Being a marketing professional and a mother, I always have to keep a balance of my children’s needs and work commitments. My Blackberry comes in very handy when I have to schedule my children’s ballet lessons and organizing client meetings. It helps me keep track on things which I always used to forget before.” Another mom Sarah finds it very convenient to send e-mails through her smartphone, when she takes out her kids to a park.
Downloading various applications for their kids as well as for their work, taking videos and photos of the kids and sharing them on social networking sites, organizing the to-do lists while shopping, checking & sending official e-mails, etc. are some of the most common things moms do on their smartphones. So, it’s about time, we start calling working mothers as ‘tech savvy moms’.
