Gadgets for women aint necessary to be pink!

How many times has it happened with you that you go to a store to buy the latest gadget and the salesman grabs your attention by saying, “Hello Ma’am, I’ve got the perfect product for you,”?

With anticipation you look at the “perfect” object and what you find is - a glossy Pink gadget! Pink phones, pink laptops, pink cameras, pink iPods – some people think that if it is for women, it has to be pink. But guys, to put the record straight, just because the gadget is for women it aint necessary to be pink!

Studies have shown that women love their gadgets as much as men. In fact, women account to almost half the gadgets sales. Yet, gadget manufacturers seem to be laboring under the misconception that women look out only for color (read pink) in their gizmos. Jessica, an IT professional exasperates, “Before buying any gadget I look out for its specifications as the performance matters the most to me. But all I find in the women magazines are pink and floral designed gizmos without any mention of its specs. It drives me crazy as it reminds me that gizmos and technology is, by large, still a man’s game.”


As more and more women are working they are becoming tech savvier; their technological intelligence and needs have increased. They also need a better battery life in their laptops; more megapixels in their cameras; a high definition LCD; a 32 GB memory in their smartphone; 9.1 surround sound speakers; a printer with scan, print, copy and fax functions, etc. But the manufacturers are still oblivious of this fact.

Yes, some women do like pink color but it doesn’t mean that they will accept any gadget with less features and low performance. The shiny, sparkly, pink oriented approach to woman-centric gadgets needs to be changed. Today’s new breed of gadget loving women want more innovative products, and no we don’t mean it by color!
