Living with a teen, or teenagers if you are lucky enough, and not knowing who they’re, is like fighting a clash without knowing who your opponents are.
Not that our teens are our enemies, even if it does seem like that sometimes, but most of us do feel we’re in a never-ending battle with our not-so-lovable kid.
We do not ask ourselves from time and again how much we know our teens or if we even know them at all, given the reality that they do not listen to the parents, nor do they wish to talk to us. Changes in teens, in some instances, may occur in a very short span of time, too short, in fact, for some parents to brace or recognize themselves for the tidal beckon that follows. We hear remarks from parents who might clearly point out the precise time the switch of behavior took place, like" it occurred right after she had her first period" or " it's the summer after 6th grade".
Following are 15 questions you might ask yourself, as a parent, to observe how well you know your teenagers:
1. What is your teen's preferred subject in school?
2. What would you teen think to be the nicest thing you might do for her/him?
3. What would your teenager like to become when she/he grows up?
4. What is your teen's preferred type of music?
5. What is your teenager’s hot button, the thing that actually makes her/him mad?
6. What is your teenager’s favorite website?
7. What is the one thing your teen wants they might change?
8. What would your teen actually like to converse about with you, but is scared to?
9. What pet would your teenager favor to have: a cat, a dog, a hamster, a bird, a horse, a snake, a turtle or all of the above, or no pet at all?
10. Who is your teenager's best friend?
11. If your teen could take a trip anywhere in the world, where would she/he go?
12. What would your teen rather do: read a good book, go to a movie with friends, play games on the computer, or play their preferred sport?
13. Does your teen have a girlfriend or boyfriend right now? If so, who is it?
14. What has been one of the high points of your teenager's life so far?
15. What was your teenager’s preferred vacation ever?
